Odunpazarı municipality was established as the first-tier municipality of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, established by decree No. 504 dated 02.09.1993, with the Decision No. 93/5130 of the Council of Ministers. Since 04.04.1994, our municipality, which served as a first-tier municipality until the 2009 local elections, gained the district municipality identity with the 2009 local elections.
Our borders were re-defined by the Municipal Law No. 5393 (dated 13.07.2005). In this definition, 8 villages with village status were connected to our municipality as a neighborhood, and our borders reached 72,888 hectares and our number of neighborhoods reached 43. Our borders were protected in kind and the status of our municipality was determined as a district municipality according to the decision taken by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, in accordance with the law No. 5747 published in the Official Gazette on March 26, 2008.
